Out and About

Dawn and I had to drop something off in Wyke and on the way back we called into Portland Marina to check our boat Star. En route we had a really close-up view of a Little Tern hovering right next to the road, as you cross Ferrybridge.

In the marina car park there were a few noisy juvenile Linnets chasing the parents. Though the best highlight was 30 minutes later, when a now confirmed Honey Buzzard flew over the "Rack" in Portland Marina. Photos Here on Twitter by Mark who photographed it over Easton.

It come off the island at quite a height with 2 Carrion Crows mobbing it. It just looked different and annoyingly my camera was back in its bag!!! This is the first Honey Buzzard I have seen since the 80's, so this sighting was well overdue.

Hopefully Star, our Tamar 2000 will be serviceable soon and we will be back in Weymouth Bay birdwatching and fishing. It has a few gremlins but hopefully they will be sorted out in the next few weeks.

Here is one of the Sea King Mark 5 Helicopters taking off from the HeliOperations Base at Portland and here it is...............

.............flying over us. More on HeliOperations Here.

Late afternoon and we were in the back garden doing a bit of weeding when this Narcissus Bulb Fly joined us. In fact there were three in total and all different colours.

This was the second one, but annoyingly a very dark individual alluded the camera. Also about were 3 Swallows and 2 Swifts overhead, and the Common Whitethroat is still very vocal in the bushes on the other side of Bumpers Lane. In the garden pond one of the Palmate Newts came up for a gulp of air.

And finally an inquisitive looking Benji.......

..........who was finding it hard to find a bit shade, unlike Ted who decided to bring his Flamingo out for a walk.
